The FIDE World Team Rapid and Blitz Championships made their East Asia debut in Hong Kong, June 17–21, and it belonged to one team: Dragon Chilling, led by GM Ding Liren, swept both the Rapid and Blitz titles — the first team from China ever to win the event, and the first team in the tournament's history to win both titles in the same edition.
In the Rapid, Dragon Chilling took gold on tiebreaks ahead of Team MGD1 and Hexamind Chess Team after a tense final day. They followed it up in the Blitz by beating Endgame.AI in the final, racking up 5–1 wins across both match segments to seal the double.
The roster beyond Ding Liren included GM Ju Wenjun, GM Wei Yi, GM Yu Yangyi, GM Lu Shanglei, GM Bai Jinshi and Lei Tingjie, with Wei Yi and Lu Shanglei both winning both of their games on the bottom board and amateur-board player Wang Zihao going unbeaten across his games.
The Blitz Championship carried a €190,000 prize fund, with Dragon Chilling's win worth €75,000. Endgame.AI took second (€50,000) and Uzbekistan claimed bronze (€30,000). Hong Kong now joins Düsseldorf (2023), Astana (2024) and London (2025) as a host city for the event.
